Selima won the horse race in Maryland
Selima won the horse race in Maryland after being challenged by trainer Ben Tasker, Jr. He had seen Selima win in Annapolis the year before and had decided to run the gray mare. Selima had a strong bloodline and had a proven track record and was an excellent horse. Woodward, a Maryland native, thought highly of the mare and had her name engraved on a special plaque in the Belair. In 1927, he introduced a new race to Laurel Park named after her. The runner-up was Lifelovenlaughter, a Maryland-bred. She won a special weight race at Pimlico Race Course on September 9. She had previously finished third in a five-furlong maiden special weight at Colonial Downs.
